Rags for riches

No matter how you try to sell it to junior lawyers, due diligence is still mind-numbingly tedious. Until, that is, you get instructed by the publisher of coffee table favourites such as Bella, Take a Break and TV Choice.

So Lovells corporate partner Frances Le Grys found out when instructed by German publishing house H Bauer on its acquisition of Emap’s consumer titles. Obviously any corporate lawyer worth their salt would have to get very much to grips with the products their client intended to buy. And so it was that, for the past two months, Le Grys’s office has been festooned with magazines.

Strangely, on this occasion the due diligence was not fobbed off on the associates.

And, stranger still, all manner of male partners were dropping by to offer their assistance – not to read FHM, Golf World or Classic Car, but to peruse the pages of Heat, Closer and Grazia.
