Simmons & Simmons environmental law partner Stephen Tromans and associate James Fitzgerald are to fly to Russia in October and November to train its government lawyers in international environmental law.
The Russian Federation is reviewing its environmental legislation in order to try to make it compatible with EC and international environmental law. As part of this project, it has asked for western lawyers to give advice.
Simmons & Simmons formed a team with US firm Apt Associates, Danish consultant planners COWIconsult, and Australian consultants IELC, which eventually won the contract to tutor the Russian government lawyers on their obligations under international environmental law.
Fitzgerald will fly out for a week in October and Tromans will spend two weeks there in November. “Then we'll take it from there,” said Tromans.
