Mercedes panel review forces firms to explain bills

Mercedes panel review forces firms to explain billsMercedes Benz put costs at the heart of its recent panel review, with the firms winning a place on the roster expected to justify their expenses on a regular basis.

Nabarro and Wragge & Co won the only two places on the panel following a beauty parade of 11 firms that saw Pinsent Masons and Shoosmiths ousted.

General counsel Iain Larkins said: “We now have a very tight [billing] process. When a new job comes along we agree a fee, it’s all documented and we review on a monthly basis, or earlier. There’s a whole budget amendment process which advisers must justify.”

Larkins said pricing was not the sole factor for the appointments. “We decided Nabarro and Wragges would be more likely to deliver on the pitch,” he said. “They’re both stable firms that have grown organically.”
