Leeds criminal specialist set St Paul’s Chambers is merging with neighbouring civil set Mercury Chambers on 1 January
The merger will form a multidisciplinary set of 36 members led by St Paul’s current head Nigel Sangster QC. The move also means that St Paul’s already-established regulatory breach team will be strengthened.
Except Mercury’s head, criminal barrister Ben Nolan QC, the remaining eight tenants practise commercial, civil or family law. The merged set is looking to hire from other sets.
St Paul’s also has branches in Newcastle and Manchester.
The Leeds bar faces increasing competition from other regional centres, notably Manchester, where 40 King Street recently targeted Leeds for growth.
