Barlow Lyde & Gilbert (BLG) has promoted seven associates to its partnership.
Five of the new partners, who will be promoted on 1 May, are based in London and specialise in commercial litigation and insurance.
Aerospace associate Peter Coles and commercial litigation associate Richard Keady will be based in Hong Kong.
Corporate did not gain any new partners, which will come as a blow to the practice area, which recently lost two leading partners, John Cadman and Peter Hill, to CMS Cameron McKenna, as revealed by The Lawyer (5 March).
The appointments will restore BLG’s partnership to the 80-partner mark after having lost 16 partners in the past three years.
This year’s number of promotions at the top 30 firm equals the total number of the past two years and continues the firm’s focus on internal promotions rather than lateral hires. Stepping up the number of promotions comes as BLG undergoes an overhaul as it gears up for converting to LLP status on 1 May.
Also on 1 May, Clifford Chance‘s former head of branding Clint Evans will join the firm as a non-lawyer chief executive.
On the partner promotions, senior partner Richard Dedman said that this “talented group of lawyers” would strengthen the firm’s offering to clients in both London and Hong Kong.
