Barclays takes new deputy general counsel from Gibson Dunn

Barclays has boosted its in-house team with the appointment of a corporate finance partner from Gibson Dunn & Crutcher.

Judith Shepherd joins the bank as deputy general counsel reporting directly to general counsel Mark Harding. She will work alongside Jeremy Ogden, also deputy general counsel and head of UK banking legal and compliance.

Harding said: “The scope of these teams has been steadily rising as our international ambition as a group has grown.”

“Judith’s primary role will be to continue to ensure that our capability keeps pace with the demands placed on us by the Barclays Group. In particular, she will continue to develop the legal services which support Barclays corporate development activity,” he added.

Shepherd will head up the following teams which provide specialist legal services within Barclays – corporate and commercial, litigation and disputes, human resources legal and banking products. The heads of these teams will report to her. She joins Barclays on 4 September 2006.
