On this very day (16 January) a year ago, The Lawyer revealed that Heller Ehrman was ready to launch in London.
The firm was planning to complete negotiations on its new office in February 2006. But the London property market can be pretty tough – just ask Reed Smith. Now it seems those plans may come to fruition by February this year.
The West Coast firm was originally gung ho about securing a transatlantic merger. It seems that has come to nought.
Instead the firm is launching with two partners flown in from the US and Edward Hennebury, who joined as European chair from the Irish Competition Authority a year ago.
Apparently the firm is hoping to build a technology practice stretching from Asia to the US via the UK. Good luck guys – hope it’s easier than finding an office.
