As first revealed by The Lawyer (11 December 2006), Ashurst has embarked on a less-Eurocentric approach during the next stage of its development.
Former US merger candidate Fried Frank made its first move on the continent at the end of 2006 with a swashbuckling raid on Simmons & Simmons. But Ashurst is less inclined towards the dramatic entrance and signalled its intentions by poaching a senior associate from Milbank in Singapore.
Rome wasn’t built in a day – and neither is an Asian network. Ashurst remains on course for a China presence by 2010. Maybe.
