Olswang launches Brussels office

Specialist communications and media firm Olswang has opened its first international office in Brussels.

Belgian lawyer Dirk van Liederkerke will head the office.

Chief executive Jonathan Goldstein says: “If you look at the world in which we operate, it is full of international clients. There are competition issues arising in this market that you wouldn't previously have considered, and we have needed a competition law capability for some time.

“We are now able to provide a fuller service to our clients as you can't divorce the European angle from competition law advice.

“Increasingly, in the world of commerce, content, carriage and technology are all one and the same, and we have a leading position in that market, so we are set to grow.”

Goldstein says he hopes to expand the operation later this year. “We are interested in meeting people who would fit in with our philosophy and beliefs. I am optimistic about the success of this new office.”

Liederkerke joins from Coudert Brothers. He has previously appeared in cases before the European Commission, and specialises in the telecoms sector.

Last September, his former colleague Colin Long also defected to Olswang.

Recently, the firm's London office has been strengthened with the arrival of Howard Cartlidge from Freshfields.
