Simmons’ Rotterdam office on the edge

Simmons’ Rotterdam office on the edgeLawyers in the Rotterdam office of Simmons & Simmons will learn their fate by the end of January following a consultation over closing the branch.

Rotterdam is the firm’s second-largest office with 27 partners, but has not made the expected gains in the Dutch market since Simmons merged with local firm Nolst Trenite in 2002.

It is understood that recruitment has been a problem, with lawyers preferring to work in Amsterdam, where Simmons has seven partners. Simmons managing partner Mark Dawkins said the future of the office was “finely balanced”, adding: “There are several options – they don’t necessarily involve closing the office.”
