Dechert made up a single UK partner, London-based funds specialist Gus Black, alongside five promotions in its US offices.
Last year, from nine promotions at the firm, just one partner, Kimberly Andrascik, worked in London, dividing her time between the City and Philadelphia.
Reed Smith made up four new City partners in this year’s round, up from three London promotions at the end of 2007. They are: Patrick Beale in commercial dispute resolution; Charles Bezzant in real estate finance; Charlotte Moller in restructuring and Gregor Pryor in the media group.
The firm made up 22 new partners this year compared to 31 in 2007. Outside the UK, there were 15 promotions in the US this year, one in Paris and two in the newly-merged Hong Kong office.
Reed Smith Europe and Middle East partner Roger Parker said the promotions were reward for “varied and significant contributions” the new partners had made to the business.
US firm Morrison & Foerster has also announced partner promotions this week, inviting 10 lawyers into the partnership including one in London.
