In a rare move between two of the bar’s commercial elite, Brick Court Chambers has picked up a new junior tenant from One Essex Court

Daniel Jowell, a competition specialist of 10 years’ call, joined Brick Court last Monday (7 March). His arrival brings the number of barristers at Brick Court to 62.

Jowell’s move is designed to develop further his European and competition practice, but he also has a strong general commercial practice, with a particular expertise in reinsurance law.

Notable recent cases include acting for Ryanair in its fuel dispute with the British Airports Authority and for Days Medical Aids against Pihsiang Machinery concerning the doctrine of restraint of trade.

Brick Court has eight silks who concentrate solely on EU law. The chambers has a greater depth of expertise in the areas of European and competition law than One Essex Court, although both sets are rated highly for broad commercial work.

Jowell has a previous relationship with Brick Court, having been led by Nicholas Green QC on more than one occasion.
