The 300-lawyer firm, which has offices in Washington and Atlanta, claims to have the world's biggest WTO practice, with more cases before the WTO than any other law firm.
The new Swiss office will be headed by Scott Anderson, who joins from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) where he served as legal advisor to the US mission to the WTO.
At the WTO , Anderson represented the US in more than 30 disputes before WTO panels and the appellate body.
Anderson is joined in the new office by Andrew Shoyer – legal advisor to the Office of the USTR when the WTO first started up – and David Palmeter, an experienced US WTO litigator.
Todd Friedbacher, a lawyer in Powell Goldstein's Washington office, is also poised to join Anderson full-time in Geneva.
Chair of Powell Goldstein's international practice, Daniel Price says: "The WTO is the critical forum for confronting the challenges posed by globalisation. Given our work on WTO matters, a Geneva office became essential to serving our clients.
