Ashurst beats rivals to corporate assistant haul

Ashurst has trumped its City rivals by securing the hire of eight corporate assistants, while a dearth of candidates leaves many of its competitors struggling to recruit.

London head of corporate Roger Finbow said the silver circle firm had completed a recruitment drive for corporate assistants, securing the appointments of its full requirement of eight associates.

As reported by The Lawyer (7 August), exclusive research revealed that firms are struggling to recruit corporate assistants with two to four years’ PQE following an upswing in the corporate market.

For example, Berwin Leighton Paisner has 40 associate vacancies across all practice areas, while Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is searching for 20 corporate associates.

Finbow said all eight of Ashurst’s new corporate associates were within the most sought-after area of two to four years’ PQE. The firm’s corporate associate recruitment drive was launched in March, utilising recruitment agents and introductions from its existing assistant ranks.

Finbow claimed the firm’s success was largely due to its competitive salaries. Ashurst offers two year-PQE associates £70,000 a year, which is in line with the market average.
