Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw has created a task force to renew its push into Europe.
Representatives from the UK, France and Germany have been appointed to the steering group, which will meet bi-monthly. The group is already working on detailed business plans.
New York partner Mark Wojciechowski, who was instrumental in Mayer Brown’s international growth prior to the Rowe & Maw combination, has been appointed as co-chair with London senior partner Paul Maher. The other members are David Allen and Stephen Bottomley for London, Jean-Phillippe Lambert and Jean-Pierre Lee for Paris, Johann-Christoph Gaedertz and Reinhart Lange for Frankfurt and Christof Gaudig for Cologne.
Allen said: “The group will be looking at the entire European strategy. That may well involve recommending laterals to strengthen existing jurisdictions and also looking at developing in new jurisdictions.”
Maher is known to be a strong advocate for rapid international expansion, with Italy, Spain and the Netherlands highest on the agenda. However, he is likely to face internal opposition from those US partners who have less of a European bias to their practices.
