In brief: Magistrates debate wave of court closures

Magistrates were due to debate growing concern about a wave of court closures at the Magistrates' Association's AGM, due to take place on 11 October. A motion calling on “the Lord Chancellor to review the process through which Magistrates' Courts Committees are closing rural court houses” was scheduled to be debated at the meeting. Last week The Lawyer revealed that Dorset was the latest county facing massive cutbacks, with proposals to close nine of the 11 existing courts.
