Rosenblatt wins top client from Olswang

Niche City media and telecoms firm Rosenblatt Solicitors has won the Wireless Group as a client from under the nose of Olswang.

The company, which is the UK's fourth-largest commercial radio group, floated on the London Stock Exchange in May this year when it used Olswang as its adviser.

Run by Kelvin McKenzie, former editor of The Mirror and the man behind LiveTV, the Wireless Group has since approached Rosenblatt Solicitors senior partner Ian Rosenblatt to represent it.

The Wireless Group owns radio stations that include Talk Radio, Classic Gold, Valleys Radio, Tower FM and The Pulse.

Rosenblatt has just completed his first deal for the client, the £21.3m acquisition of Southampton-based radio station Wave 105 FM. The Wireless Group already owned 25 per cent of the station.

Rosenblatt says: “They approached me to do the work. Kelvin just rang me up and asked me to come in and see him and they've been instructing us ever since.”

The nine-partner firm will advise the telecoms group on its planned move into television production. Its national radio station talkSPORT is entering into a joint venture agreement with 3BM Television, an independent television production company, to produce and promote sports documentaries.

Rosenblatt says the firm has a number of other significant matters in the pipeline for the company.

Rosenblatt Solicitors was set up in 1989 by Ian Rosenblatt with the aim of providing an across-the-board City capability with a particular focus on its Mice group – Media, Infotech, Communications and E-commerce.

Its clients include corporate finance house and AIM-nominated adviser Collins Stewart, for whom the firm recently handled the AIM market-listing of secure transaction systems supplier of ID Data.

Other clients include Société Générale, Brands Hatch, Diners Club, Global Internet Billing, America Online, British Telecommunications, Telecom Italia and France Telecom.

Olswang was unavailable for comment as The Lawyer went to press.
