Institute of Arbitrators and Disputes Panel forge alliance

The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the City Disputes Panel are to pool resources in a new cooperative agreement announced today (16 March).

The agreement is for an initial three-year period and will see the City Disputes Panel move from its current Fleet Street offices to the institute’s headquarters in Bloomsbury.

The two organisations, which are both charitable bodies, will remain separately managed with their own procedures for managing disputes. But the agreement will mean closer cooperation in terms of administrative support, cross-referring arbitrators, mediators and other experts, and in training and education.

City Disputes Panel chief executive Karl Davies said there was no intention to merge, but he told The Lawyer that both organisations hoped to reach a greater number of people through the cooperation.

“There’s a whole community of users which we haven’t reached yet,” he said.
