Leading north-west firm Davies Wallis Foyster is opening a London office – the second big regional player to move into the capital in as many weeks.
The 42-partner firm is taking office space in Mayfair to establish its London capability and is looking to make appointments.
Last week top Birmingham firm Wragge & Co made its first move into the City, merging with niche intellectual property practice Needham & Grant (The Lawyer, 6 March).
Davies Wallis Foyster has offices in Liverpool and Manchester and specialises in corporate work, commercial litig- ation and commercial property.
The firm's clients include national developers like St Modwen and Rothschilds and Kwik Save and Capital Bank.
An insider at the firm says: “Most of us are down in London regularly and we need somewhere we can use to see London clients so we are taking a small office. We have not made any appointments yet.”
The insider will not say what kind of recruits the firm is in the market for.
Managing partner Jim Davies refuses to comment on the move at this stage, saying he would rather talk about it when appointments are made.
