Claimant: Female, married, 44 years old at date of accident; 58 years old at date of trial.

Incident: The claimant was a passenger in a car which collided with a tree.

Injuries: The claimant sustained severe brain damage resulting in her speech, concentration and memory being badly impaired. She was left with almost total paralysis on her left side. She was confined to a wheelchair and needed help with almost all daily tasks. The claimant lived in hospital but wished to live in self-contained accommodation at a cost of £60,000 per annum. Her condition was permanent.
