When you are a respected partner at a firm such as DLA Piper the expectation is that when you move it will be to somewhere with a standing equal to or greater than your current firm.
Not so for Darryl Cooke, erstwhile head of DLA Piper’s private equity practice. For rather than looking towards the heady heights of the magic circle, the Manchester-based lawyer has set his sights on Hill Dickinson. The Hill Dickinson that ranked 37th in The Lawyer‘s UK 200 this year.
The plan is for Cooke, who worked at Addleshaw Goddard before joining DLA Piper, to make Hill Dickinson’s corporate practice a serious contender.
While DLA Piper is unlikely to be quaking in its boots over this, it is worth noting that his head of private equity duties have been filled by a triumvirate of partners: Andrew Harris in London, Jim Lavery in Birmingham and Neal Shepherd in Manchester.
