Former DLA Piper Beijing managing partner Jingzhou Tao has joined Jones Day’s Beijing office as a partner.
His appointment brings Jones Day’s Beijing fee earner head count to 45.
According to Jones Day managing partner Stephen Brogan Tao’s background is “extraordinary”.
“His expertise in China matters and admission to practice law in France will further enhance Jones Day’s ability to serve clients around the world as one firm worldwide,” he said.
Tao has considerable experience of the Chinese market having practised in the country for the past 15 years. His practice focuses on international trade, arbitration, and corporate work. He advises on international law matters, particularly on legal, financial, tax, arbitration and commercial aspects of trade and investment.
Johnson Tan, who heads the firm’s Beijing office, added: “This is a very significant appointment. As the China economy continues to flourish as a result of globalisation his arrival will further consolidate our leadership position in terms of our ability to serve clients across continents, no matter what their business and legal needs require.”
Tao joined DLA Piper in October 2005 from Coudert Brothers, where he was the China managing partner.
