Field Fisher Waterhouse (FFW) has boosted its derivatives practice with the hire of Joseph Carrico, the former head of legal services for trading at Citigroup.

The move is Carrico’s first step into private practice after a 19-year in-house career at a number of banks.

Carrico said: “I’d been interested in a move to private practice for some time. The move balances my career and it’s a good time to do it. I’d like this to be my last move.”

Before his three years at Citigroup, Carrico was at Landesbank Berlin for 10 years, ending his stint there as head of the capital markets legal department. Carrico has left Citigroup in a period of restructuring for the bank, which has seen the derivatives legal team transferred to Belfast this year.

Carrico will join partners Guy Usher and Edward Miller in FFW’s derivatives group.
