In her first newspaper interview since leaving No 10 Downing Street, Cherie Booth QC of Matrix Chambers has shunned the lure of the US dollar and pledged her future to the UK legal system.
The wife of former prime minister Tony Blair said she has ruled out following in the footsteps of her husband’s attorney general Lord Goldsmith, who joined US law firm Debevoise & Plimpton last month.
“I certainly wish Peter [Goldsmith] well in his new career, but no, it’s not for me. I’m very happy at Matrix,” said Booth. “I’ve been a barrister since 1976, for 31 years, and I can honestly say I’ve loved absolutely every moment of it and I have absolutely no regrets.”
Booth told The Lawyer that her future lies with being an arbitrator and mediator both in the UK and internationally after conceding that a career in as a High Court judge is “not in her gift”.
