Magic circle conjures pay rises

The four magic circle firms have announced annual salary increases for trainees and associates.

At Clifford Chance junior lawyers saw a pay increase of 4.5 per cent on average, with newly qualified (NQ) rates up by 4.88 per cent to £66,600.

At Allen & Overy pay remained static for NQ staff and associates with one to three years’ PQE. Only trainees saw a pay rise, with salaries increasing by 2 per cent to £37,000.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer raised junior salaries by an average of 2 per cent, while trainees saw a 2.6 per cent increase.

NQ rates at Linklaters rose by 3.9 per cent to £66,600. The firm increased wages for trainees and associates by an average of 2.5 per cent.
