Clarke Willmott hires clinical negligence ace

Clarke Willmott & Clarke’s medical team has hired the clinical negligence specialist who is advising the National Committee Relating to Organ Retention (Nacor).

Mervyn Fudge leaves Toller Beattie in Barnstaple, Devon, to join the Clarke Willmott team, led by Andrew Hannam. He brings assistant Claire Jewell with him.

As Nacor’s adviser, Fudge is now marshalling major litigation on behalf of victims’ families. He has also acted for parents involved in the child heart scandal at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and is joint lead solicitor for the Bristol Heart Children’s Action Group.

Fudge says: “As my role in public inquiries and lead litigation grows, I need to be part of a large clinical negligence practice.”

His arrival in April will allow Clarke Willmott partner Martin Pettingell to refocus on new client Carole Nash, a leading motorcycle insurer. The firm won the work to handle claims in the South at Christmas, after a recommendation from longstanding client Law Club Legal Protection, a legal expenses insurer.
