Firm welcomes CVs over superhighway

A legal recruitment agency has been the first to offer job-seekers a chance at an electronic application.

ZMB Recruitment consultancy has a post-box on the electronic superhighway, the Internet. Applicants will be able to respond to job advertisements by sending their CV and letter to a mailbox address on the bottom of the advert.

The system is being tested in an advert in this week's The Lawyer by telecommunications company CableTel for an in-house legal adviser.

ZMB's Carmel Murphy says the system is a response to the need for job applicants to apply in confidence for a position. "Obviously, a lot of people have difficulty contacting us from the office," she says. "This enables people to get in touch."

The consultancy also insists that the information is safe on the Internet, despite the activities of computer hackers.

ZMB says the information will be removed on a regular basis from the electronic post-box and that it is inaccessible for anyone except its own consultants.
