Westminster Supreme Court gets go-ahead

Westminster City Council has given to go-ahead to convert Middlesex Guildhall into the new Supreme Court. The building will undergo an extensive renovation project, scheduled to start in April 2007, with the court opening for business in October 2009. The Crown Court at Middlesex Guildhall will cease sitting on 30 March 2007. The court’s work represents 5 per cent of London’s Crown courtroom capacity. Once it is up and running the Supreme Court will act as the final Court of Appeal in the England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
