Midlands firms are apparently shaking in their boots as international powerhouse Reed Smith shapes up for its assault on the Midlands’ legal market.
As first reported in the Estates Gazette in June, Reed Smith is moving all the way from Coventry to Solihull. It has rented 23,300sq ft of office space at £19 per sq ft at British Land’s Blythe Valley Business Park.
Reed Smith, which is tying up the loose ends of its merger with Richards Butler, has nine partners in Coventry, having cut loose the local property and debt-collection arms, which don’t really fit with Reed Smith’s international focus.
Also moving in is electrical goods supplier HomeBuy by Vodafone, which didn’t quite match Reed Smith’s deal, paying £20 per sq ft for its 20,000sq ft of space.
Merger partner Richards Butler is also opening new offices with a move to the Dubai International Financial Centre, as first revealed on www.thelawyer.com (8 September).
