Sport makes people, even lawyers, do strange things. Addleshaw Goddard litigation head Simon Twigden was full of confidence ahead of the Ashes and heartily engaged in email banter with one of Tulkinghorn’s (numerous) Australian scribes.
That was until England’s awful Adelaide aberration last week. The scribe was bemused to find an email from Twigden, penned by Private Eye poet EJ Thribb, announcing his ‘retirement’ from the firm, and therefore his inability to respond to any cricket-related emails.
Tulkinghorn trusts it was a joke – much like England’s performance.
