Kamlesh Bahl accused of harassment

At least three Law Society staff members are understood to have officially complained that Bahl has subjected them to bullying and intimidation. The society's staff trade union has reportedly become involved.

The former chairman of the Equal Opportunities Commission, Bahl was asked to absent herself from her official duties at a closed meeting of the Law Society Council yesterday.

She is understood to have resisted the request and a Law Society spokesman confirms that she is still in her post at present.

He says the Society has a "dignity at work" policy that requires strict confidentiality for parties involved in harassment claims.

He adds however that the Society is taking the matter seriously and any complaints will be investigated as a matter of urgency by an independent party
