DCA appoints chair for judicial appointments role

The Department for Constitutional Affairs has appointed the first chair of the Commission for Judicial Appointments. Baroness Usha Prashar, whose career includes positions as director of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, executive chairman of the Parole Board for England and Wales and membership of the Lord Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Legal Education and Conduct, will take up her position next April. The commission, comprising 14 commissioners, will be responsible for the appointments of judges in courts and tribunals, which was previously the Lord Chancellor’s responsibility.
