Bingham hires Clifford Chance DC head

Bingham McCutchen has raided Clifford Chance to bulk up its US litigation capabilities, hiring the magic circle firm’s Washington DC office head as well as two litigation partners.

Leiv Blad, who headed Clifford Chance’s DC office, will join the antitrust and trade regulation group in Bingham’s DC office together with partners Jon Roellke and Boyd Cloern.

The hires come after Clifford Chance made 20 layoffs from its US litigation practice, three of which were from the DC office, in October this year.

Bingham litigation co-head Donn Pickett said: “Leiv, Jon and Boyd are excellent antitrust lawyers with solid reputations, and their arrivals are consistent with our strategy of selective and qualitative growth in priority markets and practices.”

Earlier this year (5 August) The Lawyer reported on Bingham hiring four international securities partners from now-dissolved firm Heller Ehrman, including Heller’s DC head Geoff Aronow.

Blad said: “Bingham has a fantastic reputation for antitrust world wide with a group of roughly 70 lawyers. The firm has clearly got a good strategy for growth and it fits very well with what we want to do with our practice.”
