Coining it in

Freshfields partners in outdrinking legal journalists shock: Tulkinghorn and his colleagues had to admit defeat last week when they were rendered insensible by the ministrations of three prominent Freshfields partners in a low-lit Soho bar.

But Tulkinghorn was even more impressed by the agility of two of them, who showed off their party trick of picking up a coin from the floor with their teeth – but with no hands allowed to balance them. Tulkinghorn’s scribes tried it, but just fell over.

But this was as nothing compared to the biggest revelation of the evening: that John Cleese successfully applied for articles at Freshfields many years ago, but never turned up. Shame. He could have done such a marvellous job integrating all the Germans.
