Barclaycard’s Rachel Harris is to quit her post as general counsel and go on temporary secondment at Northamptonshire Council to develop her business skills. The Barclays Bank subsidiary is currently recruiting her successor.
Harris, who has developed a fearsome reputation among Barclaycard’s external legal advisers, will remain on Barclays’ payroll.
It is thought that when her 12-month secondment is over, Harris will return to the Barclays group in a senior business role, although neither she nor Barclaycard would comment on this.
Harris will be responsible for a host of functions at the county council including board support, regulatory affairs, communications and performance management.
A Barclaycard spokesperson said: “Rachel’s secondment is a great opportunity to build her skills and the links between Barclaycard and the local community.”
