Hypnotist faces Mirror in libel trial

Media specialists Davenport Lyons and Swan Turton are facing off in the High Court this week as hypnotist Paul McKenna sues the Daily Mirror for libel.

Swan Turton partner Jonathan Coad is acting for McKenna in his case against the paper. The claim was brought after the Mirror published an article in October 2003 which alleged that McKenna had fraudulently obtained a doctorate.

Mr Justice Eady is hearing the case this week, and McKenna is expected to take the stand this morning (11 July).

Coad has instructed 5 Raymond Buildings’ Desmond Browne QC for McKenna. Cloth Fair Chambers’ John Kelsey-Fry QC is acting for the Mirror, instructed by Davenport Lyons.
