LJ Potter appointed new Family Division head

Lord Justice Potter has been appointed as the new president of the High Court’s Family Division.

He will replace the popular Dame Elizabeth Butler Sloss when she steps down from the post in April.

The position of deputy head of family justice and international family justice has gone to Lord Justice Thorpe.

Commenting on the changes, the Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer, said: “The huge range of issues which the family division deals with, now going beyond child care and family breakdown to issues such as the continuation of life sustaining treatment, require leadership of the highest calibre.”
