The London office of O’Melveny & Myers had made up one partner in the shape of corporate counsel Justin Stock.
This is half the number of promotions made in the office last year, when the firm promoted Paul Loynes and Solomon Wifa.
According to the firm’s co-managing partner John Daghlian the fact the firm has made up three partners in London in the past two years is good news for the office.
“We only reopened London in March 2004 and there were just two of us,” he said. “Now there are 40-plus lawyers, including trainees, we are a top rated fund formation firm and we made two partners last year and we have made another this year. As a percentage of London lawyers it strikes me that three internal promotions to partner in such a small office is impressive.”
Stock, a member of the firm’s transactions department, specialises in M&A, corporate finance and private equity. He has advised on public and private mergers and cross-border disposals and acquisitions, private equity transactions, securities transactions, corporate reorganisations and general corporate work.
Daghlian said: “Justin is an entrepreneurial and highly-skilled private equity lawyer. He was a great associate and will be a world class partner.”
As reported by The Lawyer (1 October, 2007) Stock led the team acting for South African insurance company Discovery when it set up a UK life assurance writing business with Prudential. Lovells acted for Prudential.
Stock is qualified in England and South Africa and, having worked at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer before joining O’Melveny, was formerly a partner with South African firm Werksmans.
