What was your first-ever job?
Selling ice creams outside Dreamland on Margate sea front during a typically British summer. The public’s commitment to a 99 Flake in the rain was unflinching.

What was your worst experience as a trainee?
Realising that when posting a writ on the last day for service after expiry of the limitation period, I had forgotten to put a stamp on the letter. The fact that I didn’t realise it until two weeks later didn’t help, but, after much grovelling, the client wasn’t adversely affected.

What time do you usually leave the office?
When my work for the day is done.

What do you do at weekends?
Play hockey for Wimbledon, although I’m taking a sabbatical while we tackle the challenges of looking after our three-month-old son.

What’s your favourite restaurant?
Lucky Seven in Notting Hill – it’s just round the corner from home and serves great comfort food.

If you weren’t a lawyer, what would you have been?
The owner of an independent bookstore.

What’s the best thing about your job?
Working with clients and the team here to get the best possible result for the client. Then remembering to enjoy that success. What’s the toughest thing about your job?Currently, combining being a new partner and a new dad: busy days and sleep-interrupted nights is not the ideal combination.

What car do you drive?
We don’t have a car. We used to own one, but realised that it didn’t make sense when a pint of milk was costing £40.40, including the obligatory parking ticket.

What book are you currently reading?
Spot the Dog by Eric Hall.

What’s on your iPod at the moment?
Amy Winehouse, the Killers and Prince.

What’s your favourite children’s book?
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon.

What’s the most exciting deal/case you’ve worked on and why?
The IPO of Admiral in 2004 – helped by the sight of elephant.co.uk’s Trunky marching into the London Stock Exchange.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what two luxury items would you take?
Sun cream and a private jet.

What’s the worst partner conference location you’ve attended and why?
I’ve only been to one partner conference – in Egham. That said, I would expect it to hold the record for some time.

What’s the longest you’ve worked without sleep?
48 hours.
