What was your worst experience as a trainee?

Attending a house eviction only to find that I knew the family being evicted.

General office.

What time do you usually leave the office?

Numero Uno on Northcote Road, London.

If you weren’t a lawyer, what would you have been?

I’ve tried my hand at many things, including rugby, inter-dealer broking,

What’s your favourite film?

The Graduate.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac.

Who’s your hero and why?

Andy Ripley (polymath, brilliant athlete, all-round good egg), who faced a painful slow and public death with courage and dignity. He told a brilliant but unprintable story about the 1974 Lions tour.

What’s the best thing about your job?

Sounds corny but the people at Withers are a great bunch who are a pleasure to work with. Same goes for the commercial/chancery

barristers I instruct.

What’s the toughest thing about your job?

Managing clients through the significant stresses of litigation.

What’s your biggest work career mistake and what did you learn from it?

Some might say giving up inter-dealer broking after five years; had I stuck with it I’d now be a client of Withers.

Where The Wild Things Are.

My bike and a wind-up radio.

What’s the worst partner conference location you’ve attended and why?

Not been on one yet but I’m told they are mostly good fun. Slightly

worrying that they tend to coincide with Six Nations weekends though.

What’s the longest you’ve worked without sleep?

Forty-eight hours as an FX option broker during the 1991 Russian uprising.

If a movie was being made about your life, which actor would play you and why?

Jeremy Irons, but more realistically the chap who plays Jeremy Aldermartin in Kavanagh QC (everyone says he could be me).

Anyone who would sell their story to a newspaper.

Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (in any order)
