SJ Berwin has bolstered its German practice with the appointment of the former head of legal and fund development at WestAM, the asset management division of WestLB Group.
Henning Starke joins as a partner in the firm’s German financial services team, under the direction of Achim Pütz.
Pütz said the appointment was in line with the firm’s strategy to strengthen its European financial services group, particularly in respect of German investment and funds business.
The firm has also recently appointed senior associate Hilger von Livonius to the German financial services team. He joins from Clifford Chance’s Munich office where he specialised in the alternative investment sector, which includes hedge funds, managed futures and commodities.
The appointments boost SJ Berwin’s German alternative investment group to 12 advisers.
The hires come less than a month after the firm achieved full financial integration with its German arm SJ Berwin Tulloch & Steininger, after spending six years trying to secure regulatory approval for full integration.
