An East Sussex man is taking the Home Office to the High Court, accusing it of failing to honour promises to pay compensation to gun owners who surrendered guns as a result of laws introduced after the Dunblane massacre. Roger Baker, of Hurstwood, has issued a writ seeking up to u100,000. He accuses the
Home Office of failing to decide on and pay compensation under the provisions of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1997.

Parc (Battersea) and Mountwood Holdings, which are both in administrative receivership, are suing Big Bang Promotions, of Ilford Essex, for possession of land and premises at Queenstown Road, Battersea. Their writ claims the land was let to Big Bang for a fixed term, and the tenancy was excluded from sections 24 to 28 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 by a court order. It claims the lease expired on 25 December 1998 but says Big Bang remained in occupation without licence or consent as a trespasser.

John Pooley, of Shorne, Kent, is suing surgeon Martin Jourdan, and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust, of London SE1, for damages in respect of injuries he suffered after an operation on 8 January 1996. The writ does not state the type of operation.

Civil and electrical engineers Clough Smith, of Crawley, West Sussex, is suing Plymouth-based ABB Daimler-Benz Transportation (Signal) for u223,274 and interest of u24,634 allegedly due as payment for work on the signalling installation for the Croydon Tramlink Enabling Works.

Deutsche Lufthansa is seeking a High Court injunction banning an employee, William Pattison, from setting up a business for rivals Swissair. Lufthansa is seeking injunctions restraining Pattison from being involved in the business or setting up any business of Swissair or Swiss Air Transport until after 30 June this year. Its writ also seeks orders banning him from providing the services he was employed to provide to Lufthansa directly or indirectly to Swissair or Swiss Air Transport or any other person, firm or business. And it seeks a ban restraining him from di-vulging any trade secrets or confidential information ab-out Lufthansa's dealings, affairs or finances. It alleges he has breached a November 1996 written agreement with Lufthansa.
