DLA Piper has hired Clifford Chance insurance litigation partner John Curran in a bid to expand its insurance litigation practice in London.

The practice currently comprises partners Charles Gordon and David Murphy, under global head of litigation Neil Gerrard.

Curran had been a partner at Clifford Chance since 2000, acting on the insurance aspects of the Ministry of Defence’s £13bn air-to-air refuelling contract with AirTanker. Clifford Chance advised AirTanker as the successful bidder.

DLA Piper lost two insurance litigation partners in Scotland last year when head of insurance and reparations Toby Seton left for Brodies along with partner Cameron McNaught.

Curran will focus on DLA Piper’s relationship with general counsel in the insurance sector.
