The owners of Sturminster Newton Livestock Market in Dorset have launched High Court action in a bid to ban two men, Benjamin Jones, of Sturminster Newton, and Paul Lewis, of Manhill, Dorset, from claiming they own part of the market land. An order is also sought banning Jones and Lewis from trespassing on the land and claiming they own it.

The marketing director of Tate & Lyle Industries is being sued by the company for more than £385,000. The company alleges Robert Laird deliberately misapplied company money by paying invoices for £385,376 between 30 November 1993 and 28 December 1995. The company is also suing Gordon Proctor, trading as Gordon Proctor Consultancy, Tunbridge Wells; Joe McHugh, trading as Design Consultants, Epsom Downs; Alan Radnor, trading as P and Q Communications and Radnor Associates, Edgware; Penny White, trading as P White Design, Wolverhampton; and Proctor's company, PR Communications International, Falcon Fields.

A Glasgow bricklayer, George McGinley, who claims he developed asbestosis after being exposed to asbestos at work, is suing his former employers Yule Catto and Precis 548, both of Harlow, Essex, and Babcock Woodall Duckham, of Crawley, Sussex. Yule Catto and Precis are the successors in title to Prodorite.

Kara Hickmott, of Groombridge, Kent, has issued a High Court writ claiming damages for slander from George Firmin, of Bromley, Kent, and an injunction preventing him from repeating the words of which she complains.

Anglian Water Services and employee Steven Bellis are being sued for damages for slander. Titan Civil Engineering and Patrick McGee, both of London E4, have issued a High Court writ against Anglian Water Services, claiming damages for slander which were allegedly published by Bellis during his employment with the water company on 18 January this year.
