Will I damage future career prospects by going in-house too soon?
I qualified this September at a City firm, but unfortunately didn’t manage to secure an NQ position. The market for NQs is not brilliant I don’t think, but I got offered an in-house role in a company based in the UK.
I never really thought about going in-house before and submitted an application on a whim as I thought the role might be interesting - but I always hear about people who go in-house at 2 or 3 PQE - Will it damage my career going in at NQ level?

Once in-house, forever in-house.
There isn't turning back.
Think twice.

I don't think that the first response is particularly helpful. I went in-house on qualification and after a year or so was offered a private practice role by one of the largest firms in the UK. I rejected the offer and have no intention of going back to private practice now or at any time in the future.
My point is that a lot of people stay in house because they enjoy the variety and responsibility that it brings, not simply because they are trapped. If it's a role you think will be interesting, go for it!
