Irwin Mitchell has made up two non-lawyers to partnership status in this year’s round of partner promotions, marking the firm’s move to become a legal disciplinary practice (LDP).
Finance director Mark Dakin and costs manager Steven Green have become the first two non-lawyers to be promoted to the equity in a development made possible by the Legal Services Act’s deregulation of the industry.
Irwin Mitchell is one of the first firms to have become an LDP since the act came into force last year.
Managing partner John Pickering said: “The legal market’s changing all the time and the promotion of two non-lawyers for the first time to equity status is an important one but it’s just one of many innovations in recent years which put Irwin Mitchell at the vanguard of change in the legal sector.”
In addition, the firm has promoted eight lawyers to its salaried partner ranks, taking the total number of partners to 147.
Three of the new partners will be based in Sheffield, with two apiece in the Birmingham and Leeds offices, while one has been made up from its Manchester base.
