Irwin Mitchell is to transfer 81 support staff to business process outsourcing (BPO) company OCS as it looks to streamline its cost base in preparation for converting to an alternative business structure (ABS).
The firm is offloading its facilities operations after signing a five-year deal with the company.
Irwin Mitchell group operations director Gary Jackson said: “We’ve grown significantly as a firm in recent years, which has led to an increase in the facilities work we undertake.
“During that time we’ve built a capable facilities team, but we can’t lose sight of the fact that we’re a law firm and our focus needs to be on ensuring that we continue to deliver high-quality legal services to all our clients.”
In April Irwin Mitchell declared its intention to transform into an ABS and the firm is widely expected to float, with equity partners swapping equity points for shareholdings in the firm. Irwin Mitchell has turned to Espirito Santo Investment Bank to advise it on investment opportunities.
A source commented: “They’re asking themselves, ’How much does each individual account for in terms of financial contribution to the firm?’.
“It’s about making sure everybody who’s contributing is adding value, so when it comes to flotation they get the best possible price.”
