Irvine challenges QC's trial costs

Lord Irvine has lodged a claim in the High Court challenging the costs claimed by Colin Nicholls QC of 3 Raymond Buildings and Philip Hackett QC of 2 Bedford Row's for representing one of the BCCI defendants.

The costs challenge relates to the case of former shipping tycoon, Abbas Gokal who was jailed for 14 years in 1997 after a five-month trial costing around £4.5 million.

Nicholls' brief fee is understood to have been between £500,000 and £750,000, while Hackett, the junior counsel is likely to have charged between £300,00 and £500,000
