Rumours reached Tulkinghorn last week that Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer old boy Tim Emmerson has been on a mission to poach lawyers from his former firm, with Will Lawes' group particularly in his sights.
So far, sources reveal, Emmerson has had no success.
However, he has at least succeeded in making what in truth is probably an even more important hire.
Yes, using all the charm for which he is renowned, Emmerson has apparently succeeded in luring his former secretary from his days at Freshfields to his current stomping ground at Sullivan & Cromwell.
Apparently, according to the mole: "Iona's fab." No doubt prompted by the support staff restructuring at Freshfields, she figured, 'why not jump ship?' - the irony being that, as is always the case, people who don't need to worry at all about getting the axe worry the most.
Equally, the fab Iona may simply have been won over by the lure of the Yankee dollar. It's not just lawyers, you know.
