Interbrew UK is gearing up to launch a review of its external lawyers following the restructure of its in-house legal function.
Interbrew, whose brands include Boddingtons and Stella Artois, has promoted UK general counsel Deepak Malhotra to general counsel for Western Europe. Malhotra will head an 80-strong team across 13 jurisdictions. Interbrew is now looking for a replacement for Malhotra.
Malhotra has started identifying the law firms Interbrew uses in each of its jurisdictions. He then hopes to prescribe a "strategic legal plan" for the company.
Malhotra confirmed that Interbrew will be reviewing its advisers, but added that it was too early to say what changes will be introduced.
The review follows changes to Interbrew parent company InBev's legal team earlier this year. As first reported in The Lawyer (24 January), Inbev hired Diageo's North American general counsel Sabine Chalmers to become its chief legal officer. Chalmers replaced Patrice Thys, who moved to InBev's Asia Pacific operation.
